In February, the Barton County Commission approved funding for the
restoration of two stone murals at Hillcrest Cemetery, north of Great Bend.
Local artist Melanie Ryan completed one of the murals with cleaning and paint
restoration.
Barton County Road & Bridge Director Darren Williams oversees the memorial
parks and said the cemetery board wanted to see improvements to the existing
murals.
"Commissioners approved the restoration and it turned out to be a really nice project," said Williams. "Those two murals have been out there since the place was built. Over the years, the paint has weathered off. It needed a touchup to get it back to life."
Ryan was chosen to complete the project for $5,300.
