Nearby tennis and ballfields closed while memorial is in Great Bend

The wait is over, the “The Wall That Heals” will be arriving Tuesday, May 9 in Great Bend. The replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. will be available to view from May 11-14 at Al Burns Field at Veterans Park.

While the memorial is set up, Great Bend Community Coordinator Christina Hayes said that nearby tennis courts, baseball and softball fields will be closed out of respect.

"That is just a requirement of the National The Wall That Heals to keep it solemn and respectful for those families and people coming to observe this wonderful tribute," said Hayes.

The 375' wall bears the names of more than 58,000 American men and women who died during the Vietnam War. The wall will be free for the public to view at any time of the day or night.
