The Great Bend City Council will discuss the future use of the old police building in a work session after the meeting on Monday, Jan. 15. Following a tour of the roughly 7,500-square-foot building last Tuesday, the majority if the council was in favor of reusing the building to spread out office space for the inspection, code enforcement and public lands departments.

Last month, the police department and municipal court staff was able to fully transfer over to the new, $9 million Justice Center built at the intersection of 12th Street and Baker Avenue.

The city has $30,000 set aside for the next step for the vacant police station on Williams Street. During the tour, city officials pointed out possible sewer issues and ADA upgrades needed with the structure that was built in 1938.

City Administrator Brandon Anderson said he would have more cost estimates for the needed improvements ready to present to the council.

The city council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at City Hall.
