Barton's Womsi earns second KJCCC Player of the Week honor

Jenny Nkem Womsi of the 22nd ranked Barton Community College women's basketball team has been named the Week 6 KJCCC Division I Player of the Week.

The honor is the second of the season for Womsi in having earned the Week 2 KJCCC and NJCAA distinction and the fifth so for the sophomore's Barton career.

Womsi's offensive and defensive performances this past week helped Barton to a pair of victories, the first coming at Cloud County followed by Saturday's home win over Pratt.

Averaging a double-double 10.5 points and 17 rebounds, 11 of the boards coming from the offensive end in the two games, Womsi was 71.4% from the field and defensively helped Barton limit the opposition to less than 44 points in each contests.

Beginning the week scoring 8 points on 4-of-6 shooting and grabbed 13 of her 17 total rebounds on the defensive end, Womsi helped the Cougars hold Cloud County 26 points below their average. Capping her week with a career high 6 steals, Womsi again filled her role in the Cougars' limiting the region's second highest scoring team 35 points below her average by hauling down 10 defensive of her 17 total rebounds. Shooting another efficient 6-of-8 from the field, Womsi's 13 points completed her 8th double-double of the year.

Womsi and the Cougars wrapped up the fall portion of the schedule Monday night in El Dorado notching their third straight win by defeating 22nd ranked Butler 62-54. Womsi notched her 9th double-double of the season in leading the Cougars, scoring 18 points on 9-of-13 shooting while collecting 18 rebounds in taking over the top spot of the Region VI Division I individual leaderboard.

The victory at the Power Plant was the second straight on the Grizzlies home floor, keeping Barton in 3rd place of the conference standings heading to the holiday break at 6-2 and 12-2 on the season.
