
The No. 26 ranked Barton Community College men's golf team battled through one of its most demanding tests of the season, overcoming a difficult opening day to finish fourth at the Region 6 Championships held at Manhattan's Colbert Hills Golf Course.
Facing arguably their toughest course of the year, the Cougars opened with a season-high 332 before trimming five strokes in the second round and delivering their best performance in Tuesday's finale. Barton's closing round 316 marked an eleven-stroke improvement from round two, securing a 659 (+111) total in finishing fourth of the five-team championship field.
Led by a steady three-round performance, No. 7 Hutchinson captured the Region 6 title at 30-over 894, finishing twenty-eight strokes clear of No. 12 Garden City (+58, 922). No. 18 Dodge City placed third at 947 (+83), with No. 26 Barton finishing fourth at 975 (+111), while No. 39 Coffeyville completed the standings at 1063 (+199).
Kobey Jackson paced the Cougars with a top-10 finish of the 35-man field, carding a three-round 238 (+22) to tie for 10th. Jackson bookended his tournament with matching 78s, bouncing back from a second-round 82 to hold steady on the final day leaderboard.
Landon Timmermeyer was five strokes back, tying for 17th at 243 (+27), also closing strong with a final round 78 after opening rounds of 84 and 81. One stroke behind, Talon Reynolds placed 19th at 244 (+28), highlighted by a team-tying best round of 78 during his second trip around the course.
Wintakorn Suwanmuang finished 22nd at +35, 251 (83-86-82), while Phattarapol Ongla and Matteu Cauvin-Piacentini took different paths in finishing tied for 23rd at 252 (+36). Ongla rebounded from a tough opening 93 round with back-to-back improvements of 80 and 79, while Cauvin-Piacentini steadied his play following an opening 87 with rounds of 84 and 81.
Competing in their first and only collegiate tournaments of the season, freshmen Taj Hill-Barns finished 33rd at +73, 289 (101-90-98) with Noah Brewster in 34th at +78, 294 following his 101-105 opening day with a solid 88 on Tuesday.
Barton returns to action April 27-28 at the Central District Championships in Springfield, Missouri.
