The Great Bend City Council approved a $169,600 bid for the removal and replacement of a damaged driveway at Fire Station #2, on west 10th Street. The project will add a new concrete drive adjacent to the training tower and burn building.

Great Bend Assistant City Administrator Logan Burns said the 14 bids were narrowed down to three local contractors and the low bidder.

"In total, on the east, west and south sides, it's going to consist of approximately 16,000 square feet of concrete," said Burns. "We also have an entrance into one of our training grounds of approximately 6,000 square feet that's included."

With each bid meeting the city’s specifications, staff used their procurement policy to identify a local contractor within the 5% allowable difference. Stone Sand Company was $1,780 higher than the low bid.

Burns said the city has been saving year end transfers for this project since 2018.
