Donald Morgenstern, 73, passed away May 4, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kan. He moved on peacefully, surrounded by his brothers and sisters. He was born May 1, 1951, in Hoisington, Kan., to LeRoy and Loretta (Demel) Morgenstern.
Don attended Pittsburgh State University and then worked at plastics-related companies in Andover and Wichita before returning to Hoisington to farm. Don was recognized with a Kansas Farm Bureau Natural Resources Award. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Don loved his extended family, driving a tractor, and a good cheeseburger. He enjoyed his Dr. K with a cigarette, and then a cigarette with another Dr. K. He knew the best way to enjoy baked beans was to pour them over his potato salad.
Survivors include one brother, Robert Morgenstern and wife Jan of Hoisington; three sisters; Joan Rziha and husband Leonard of Hoisington, Pam Willis and husband Greg of Hoisington, and Roxanne Bell and husband Tom of Salina, Kan; and one sister-in-law Lou Ann Morgenstern of Hoisington, and 15 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jerry Morgenstern, and a nephew, Matthew Morgenstern.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2024, at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, with Father Warren Stecklein presiding. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Hoisington. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 9, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, Clara Barton Hospital Foundation, and the Hoisington Food Bank, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.
