LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Hunter Dickinson had 13 points and 16 rebounds, Kevin McCullar Jr. and KJ Adams had 17 points each and No. 2 Kansas beat rival Missouri 73-64. The Jayhawks closed out the first half on a 14-0 run started by a Elmarko Jackson’s 3-pointer to turn a 2-point deficit into a 41-29 halftime lead. McCullar Jr. had 14 points and six rebounds in the first half. Sean East II led Missouri with 21 points and Nick Honor scored 17, but the Tigers were without one of their guards, Caleb Grill, who injured his non-shooting wrist last Sunday and is expected to miss 5-7 weeks.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Cam Carter scored 21 points, 19 in the first half, and Arthur Kaluma added a double-double, leading Kansas State to a 75-60 victory over LSU. The Tigers outshot Kansas State 59%-52% in the first half but trailed 42-34 at the break. An 8-0 run by the Wildcats pushed the lead to 56-39 near the 14-minute mark of the second half. LSU fought back and an 11-0 run got the Tigers within three points near the 10-minute mark. At that point, the teams that shot better than 50% in the first half both went ice cold. In the next eight minutes, K-State made three baskets and LSU one, leaving the Wildcats with a 67-57 lead with two minutes to go.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Zeke Mayo's 25 points helped South Dakota State defeat Wichita State 79-69 on Saturday night. Mayo had six rebounds and seven assists for the Jackrabbits (5-5). Coltie Young scored 13 points to lead Jackson State. Ian Schieffelin had 14 points, nine rebounds and a team-high five assists as Clemson pulled away in the second half to remain undefeated in four all-time meetings with TCU. RJ Godfrey had 10 rebounds for the Tigers, who led by as many as 16. Toronto-born Emanuel Miller led the Horned Frogs with 16 points but TCU lost for the first time after starting the season with seven straight wins.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Quincy Olivari scored 27 points, Dayvion McKnight scored 20 points and Xavier won its fifth straight against Cincinnati, beating the Bearcats 84-79. True freshman backup Jizzle James scored 14 of his season-high 19 points in the first-half for the Bearcats. Abou Ousmane’s layup with 13:03 left broke a 49-all tie and Xavier held off Cincinnati from there. The Bearcats went on a 14-5 run to start the second half and took their first lead of the game, 41-40, with 16:10 remaining. Xavier responded to outscore Cincinnati 17-6 over the next five minutes and led 57-47 with 11:24 left to post its biggest lead of the night to that point.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs will be without running back Isiah Pacheco and left tackle Donovan Smith on offense and safety Bryan Cook and linebacker Drue Tranquill on defense when they play the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Pacheco is the league's fifth-leading rusher but is sidelined by a shoulder bruise, leaving Clyde Edwards-Helaire to start in his place. Smith has a neck injury, Cook a sprained ankle and Tranquill is in the concussion protocol. The Chiefs could activate linebacker Nick Bolton off injured reserve, where he has been recovering from a fractured wrist.

NEW YORK (AP) — LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has won the Heisman Trophy in a decisive victory. Daniels is the first Heisman winner to be part of a team team that failed to play for a conference championship since 2016, when Lamar Jackson won for a Louisville team that also went 9-3. Daniels is also LSU’s third winner overall. Daniels, who transferred from Arizona State in 2022, is the fifth quarterback in the last seven seasons to win the Heisman after transferring. Daniels received 2,029 points. Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. was the runner-up with 1,701 points and Oregon’s Bo Nix was third.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Army opened a 17-3 lead and held on with a goal-line stand in the final seconds to beat Navy 17-11 in the 124th matchup of the nation's oldest service academies. Army linebacker Kalib Fortner scored on a fourth-quarter strip sack and then stuffed quarterback Tai Lavatai six inches from the goal line with 3 seconds left to seal the win. Bryson Daily ran for 84 yards and threw Army’s first touchdown pass against Navy since 2015 to help the Black Knights claim bragging rights for the second straight year and the sixth time in eight tries.

UNDATED (AP) — LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels continued to collect postseason awards when the honors were handed out. Daniels, named The Associated Press player of the year on Thursday, won the Davey O’Brien Award as the top quarterback in college football. Payton Wilson of North Carolina State won the Chuck Bednarik Award as the top defensive player. Marvin Harrison Jr. of Ohio State won the Bilitnikoff Award as the top receiver, Graham Nicholson of Miami (Ohio) won the Lou Groza Award as the top kicker, and T’Vondre Sweat of Texas won the Outland Trophyas the outstanding interior lineman.

UNDATED (AP) — Former Oklahoma and UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel has announced he is transferring to Oregon for a sixth season of college football. Gabriel, who is from Hawaii, posted on social media “Marcus Approved” in reference to former Oregon Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota, who was also born in Hawaii. Gabriel wears jersey No. 8 in honor of Mariota. He lines up as Oregon’s replacement for Bo Nix, a Heisman finalist who spent the last two seasons with the Ducks after starting his career with Auburn. The Ducks are transitioning from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten next season.

NEW YORK (AP) — Shohei Ohtani agreed to a record $700 million, 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The deal was announced after days of speculation over where the unique, two-way star would continue his career after six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. Ohtani’s total was 64% higher than baseball’s previous record, a $426.5 million, 12-year deal for Angels outfielder Mike Trout that began in 2019. Ahead of his 30th birthday on July 5, Ohtani has a .274 average with 171 homers, 437 RBIs and 86 steals along with a 39-19 record, 3.01 ERA and 608 strikeouts in 481 2/3 innings.

UNDATED - Shohei Ohtani, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Patrick Mahomes and Mike Trout are among the world’s top athletes, each with a long list of epic accomplishments. Well paid, too. Ohtani has cashed in on his success, agreeing to a $700 million, 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. It is almost assuredly the biggest deal in the history of the four major North American sports. Ohtani joins an exclusive list of sports stars with financial records to go along with their record-breaking numbers on the field.

UNDATED (AP) — NCAA President Charlie Baker’s call for sweeping changes in compensating athletes comes with the organization facing a series of high-profile lawsuits. Baker says some schools should be required to pay their athletes at least $30,000 a year, Tulane law professor Gabe Feldman says the plan is unlikely to protect the NCAA from ongoing lawsuits. Some of those cases could cost the NCAA and its member schools billions in payouts to current and former athletes.
