After more than 40 years with the Great Bend Police Department, and nearly the past three years as Police Chief, David Bailey’s retirement was announced publicly at Monday’s Great Bend City Council meeting.
Bailey’s final day with the City will be Dec. 18, 2020.
City Administrator Kendal Francis wished Bailey well and also noted the search for his replacement starts right away.
"We want to wish him well and say congratulations, but we will be moving forward," said Francis. "We'll officially start advertising for that position starting tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 22)."
Bailey was selected by a committee from eight internal candidates to become Police Chief in December 2017. Bailey served as a Lieutenant prior to being named Chief. Francis noted the search for a replacement police chief will include both internal and external options.
"We have ads set to run statewide in professional journals and publications, as well as locally," said Francis.
