Action during Tuesday's Barton County Commission meeting was light. That allowed Commissioner Shawn Hutchinson to take a break between the public meeting and study sessions to refile for a third term on the body. Hutchinson served as commission chairman the past two years and has unfinished business in the county.
"I feel like I still have a few planes in the air that haven't landed," he said. "A few of those being, first and foremost, the courthouse renovation project. That's not completed. We have some façade improvement grants that aren't completed and maybe another round we'll be talking about."
Hutchinson has also been involved with the demolition of the old Highland Hotel in Great Bend and bringing a new hotel to the city. He is starting his fourth year as the representative for District 3, which largely spans the area north and east of Great Bend.
The 2024 primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 6. The final day to register or update voter registration information for that election is Tuesday, July 16.
