Preparations for Ellinwood Hospital & Clinic to move into its new facility are currently underway. The hospital and clinic is still on schedule to be fully operational to the public on Aug. 1, 2024. Equipment and furniture installation is ongoing.
"It has taken a massive amount of scheduling, planning, and time to be able to get us to this point," said Bill Athey, Project Coordinator with Ellinwood Hospital & Clinic. "We just have one final coordinated effort to move and before you know it, the facility will be done, open, and serving it’s patients."
The new gym area for the Therapy Services Department will be equipped with new, state of the art equipment that is rare to find in a rural Kansas healthcare setting. In addition, the department announced that they have hired a new Speech Language Pathologist, Jessica Mulch.
Mulch is married to Cole, who is from Ellinwood, and they have a son, Kenny. Jessica is from Wichita and graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in elementary education. She received her masters in speech-language pathology from Western Kentucky University and is currently completing a medical externship at Geary Rehabilition.
Jessica has completed research while in school on treating aphasia and apraxia of speech in adults post-CVA, otherwise referred to as a stroke. She has experience in treating all ages in speech, as well as swallowing and cognition.
“I can’t wait to be a part of the Ellinwood community," said Mulch. "Being able to do the job I love in the place I love is a dream come true.”
Jessica will be at Ellinwood Hospital & Clinic full-time starting at the beginning of August but is already doing some on-site training and learning the ropes.
