The Barton County Treasurer's Office announced Tuesday morning that property tax statements would be mailed to residents on Friday, Dec. 8. Later that evening, County Clerk Bev Schmeidler issued a release stating some residents may receive incorrect statements.
"A utility company filed late, therefore the value of that was not included in the calculations of a portion of the 2023 tax levies," she said. "Our software limited us and prevented us from being able to go back and recalculate those levies."
Schmeidler added any errors would be very small numerically and affect only a portion of Barton County residents. Her office is taking steps to ensure future mistakes do not happen in the future.
