The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce is just a few days away from hosting one of the largest banquets of the year in the community. The Chamber’s 102nd Annual Awards Ceremony is happening Saturday, Feb. 24.

Along with the usual awards for NextGen Leader of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year, Chamber CEO Megan Barfield said their unsung hero campaign has been a success.

"Our board felt adamant that there are a lot of gruff, angry people on social media," said Barfield. "There are still so many good human beings that should be recognized and appreciated as well. The unsung heroes campaign will culminate during our annual event, and some of them will be present the night of as well."

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour, including two large grazing boards for snacks before the 7 p.m. dinner. The Chamber is making use of three local caterers for the food and drinks.

"As everyone comes in during that first hour, there will be four different bars set up," said Barfield. "The drinks will be taken care of during that first hour and attendees can enjoy the grazing boards."

The banquet switches venues this year from the Great Bend Events Center to the Corinthians Hill Event Center, north of Barton Community College. Chamber Ambassadors will assist anyone with golf cart transportation from your parked vehicle to the door.
