Lady Panther tennis team places second at Lyons

The Lady Panther tennis team had to wait a couple of extra days to begin its season after heat pushed back Thursday's season opener to Saturday. Great Bend scored 29 points in Lyons to place second out of five teams in action. Pratt won the meet with 31 points, and Chaparral finished third with 25 points.

Great Bend's No. 2 doubles team of Danica Strickland and Mackenzie LaViolette went 4-0 to win their bracket. The girls shut out Nickerson and defeated Lyons and Pratt 6-3, 6-2, respectively. Their toughest match was a 7-5 win over Chaparral to open the bracket.

Kaylin Wahlmeier went 3-1 at No. 1 singles to capture second place. Wahlmeier was dominant in her matches with a pair of 6-2 wins and a 6-3 win against Chaparral's second player. Pratt's returning state qualifier Bailey Jackson defeated Wahlmeier 6-1 for first place.

Clarise Snapp moved into the No. 2 singles slot where she posted a 3-1 record for second place. Snapp won matches of 6-2, 6-2, and 6-0, losing a 7-6 (4) battle against Pratt in what proved to be the title match.

Sam Mayers and Taylor Lashley finished third at No. 1 doubles with a 2-2 record. The girls picked up shutout wins against Nickerson and Lyons and lost a pair of 6-2 matches to Pratt and Chaparral.
