The process of recovering from the July 16 severe storm that ripped through Great Bend is still very much a work in progress for homeowners, including the City of Great Bend. The city’s insurance adjusters will arrive to town on Sept. 11 to view all the structures that were damaged during the storm that produced straight-line winds over 80 miles per hour.

City Clerk Shawna Schafer said the city’s insurance provider contracted with a third party adjuster to come on site.

"I would guess they'll be here at least three days, just because of the amount of properties we have on our policy," said Schafer. "I've had staff go through and delete some of the ones they know don't have any damage. We've cut out a few, but I think it's going to take a while."

The City of Great Bend is expecting a hefty price to repair their buildings, especially with the Great Bend Municipal Airport structures on the west side of town. City Administrator Brandon Anderson said the “scary part” of the city’s deductible is the cost is one percent of the value of the buildings that are damaged.
