Class 5A volleyball substate brackets were released earlier this week. With some lingering action around the state, the Kansas State High School Activities Association was unable to release brackets for the smaller classifications until Wednesday morning. Now a full slate of brackets are available for the postseason.
Class 5A
Great Bend (19-14) travels to Hutchinson Saturday and will take on 10th-ranked Goddard-Eisenhower (26-10) at approximately 3 p.m. The winner will face either fifth-ranked Hutchinson (27-5) or Maize (17-19) in the finals.
Class 3A
All area Class 3A teams will play in the Smoky Valley substate in Lindsborg on Saturday. Hoisington (22-14) will play as the No. 4 seed against Hesston (21-14). The winner will take on either Smoky Valley (29-8) or Larned (2-30) in a semifinal match. Lyons (14-21) draws No. 2 seed Council Grove (24-12) in the bottom half of the bracket.
Class 2A
The Ellinwood girls earned the No. 1 seed in a loaded Wakeeney bracket Saturday. At 32-3 overall, the Lady Eagles open play against Plainville (2-29) at 2 p.m. Ellis (23-10) or Trego Community (18-14) awaits the winner in the semifinals. The other half of that bracket features third-ranked Smith Center (33-4) and 10th-ranked Hoxie (26-9).
Class 1A, Div. I
Second-ranked Little River (32-4) enters the Goessel bracket with a bye. The Lady Redskins will see either Solomon (17-16) or Canton-Galva (14-15) in the semifinals. Central Plains (11-24) enters as the No. 7 seed against Goessel (22-13), with Elyria Christian (19-12) or Rural Vista (11-21) playing in the other quarterfinal.
In Fairfield, Macksville (23-9) enters as the No. 2 seed opposite Kinsley (4-28). Skyline (25-12) and Fairfield (11-17) will play in the other quarterfinal. St. John (19-13) enters as the No. 4 seed opposite LaCrosse (13-19), with top-ranked Pretty Prairie (33-4) awaiting the winner in the semifinals.
