Great Bend Post Sports
Progress is success. The Panther swimmers finished ninth out of 10 teams Thursday at Campus. They also swam personal best times in 20 of their 24 races that day. Campus scored 471 points for the win, followed by Maize South with 400 points and Maize with 379 points. Great Bend scored 45 points to miss eighth place by two points. Campus and Maize South each had divers.
The 200 medley relay team of Mark Sperlein, Matthew Williams, Kale Mermis, and Logan Urban finished 14th in 2:20.30, eight seconds from a top-10 finish.
Sperlein made the top 10 in the 100 fly in 1:18.58 to miss the bronze by 15 seconds. He swam 13th in the 200 IM in 2:49.22, five seconds off a top-10 finish. Mermis finished two spots behind him in 2:59.52. Urban placed 18th in the 50 free in 30.74, three seconds off a top-10 spot. Cade Urban hit the wall in 32.53 for 22nd. Williams finished 22nd in the 200 free in 2:35.04 to miss the top 10 by 13 seconds. Leo Bashor placed 31st in 3:06.53.
Logan Urban also finished 17th in the 100 free in 1:10.10 to miss the top 10 by less than six seconds. Charlie Maharjan finished 26th in 1:20.02, and Dylon Kalivoda placed 27th in 1:27.20. Mermis placed 19th in the 500 free in 7:19.70 to miss the top 10 by just over a minute. Bashor finished 27th in the 100 back in 1:39.42, 23 seconds out of the top 10.
The 400 free relay squad of Mermis, Sperlein, Williams, and Logan Urban placed 12th in 4:420.09, 25 seconds out of 10th place. The 200 free relay team of Maharjan, Bashor, AJ Schartz, and Tyler Scheuerman finished 21st in 2:24.69.
