Last week’s Barton County Commission meeting turned into a farewell
reception for Landfill Director Phil Hathcock, and this week’s meeting welcomed
in the new director.
Hathcock resigned as landfill director after eight years with the county to
accept a similar position in his Virginia hometown.
Jennifer Hamby was officially appointed Interim Director of the landfill
Wednesday.
"I appreciate this opportunity to take this role on," said Hamby. "I'm very excited."
Hamby has served as office manager at the landfill since 2010. Commissioners
Jennifer Schartz and Kirby Krier were appreciative of the succession plan developed
for a smooth transition.
"I think this speaks well of Phil for having somebody trained to step in when he left," said Schartz. "I know it didn't happen over night."
"I applaud Phil for having this in place," said Krier. "We want all departments to consider this and make sure this happens."
Hamby received her Manager of Landfill Operations certification through the
Solid Waste Association of North America in 2019.
