At the Great Bend Recreation Commission meeting Monday, Director Chris Umphres said the kayak rentals are still on schedule to be available this spring. Kayak lockers will be installed at Veterans Lake and Stone Lake for users to check out.
"With some of these playground projects, we're still working with the city," said Umphres. "They got the kayak pads poured. It should be all installed by the end of this month."
There will be four kayaks at Stone Lake and four at Vets Lake. Users can use the online app to get their lifejacket, paddle and kayak.
A five-year contract with Rent.fun for all of the kayaks, gear and app use cost $26,000. Great Bend Convention and Visitors Bureau received a grant from the state and contributed $10,000 for the project, and another $2,000 on signage and promotion. The Great Bend Rec covered $16,000 of the project.
