Barton women's tennis continues hot start

The Barton County Community College women's team continued its hot stretch of the early spring by winning 7-0 at Rockhurst University Thursday afternoon.

Barton swept all of the single matches following coming out on top in two of the three doubles matches.

No. 1 singles player and reigning ITA UTR Player of the Week Alexandra Abyasova, No. 3 singles Natsuki Nishimura, and No. 4 Angelina Gnezdilova each kept their combined unblemished mark improving to 29-0.

Abyasova had the lone three setter of the singles action, dropping the first set 6-3 to Samantha Czarnecki before winning the match by 6-0 and 6-4 scores.

Nishimura prevailed in a tough 6-4, 7-5 match over Andrea Dabbah while Gnezdilova took care of Dina Dudic 6-1, 7-5.

In other singles play, No. 2 Annunciata De-Souza won 6-0, 6-3 over Paula Romero, No. 5 Malena Hernandez took care of Mary Grace Harris 6-4, 6-2, and Hailey Vinroe completed the singles sweep at the No. 6 slot with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kaylie Meyer.

Doubles play began the days action, with Barton winning two of the three matches as No. 1 duo De-Souza and Nishimura won 6-1 over Czarnecki and Dudic while Hernandez and Vinroe blanked Harris and Meyer 6-0.

The No. 2 duo of Abyasova and Gnezdilova took the lone loss falling 6-2 to Romero and Dabbah.

The Cougars' next action comes Friday in the two-day SW JUCO Regional in Plano, Texas.
