The mural movement in Barton County will continue this summer as the Barton Arts Movement, known as BAM, has organized a mural to be painted on the north side of the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce building at the intersection of 12th Street and Williams Street.
BAM, a grass-roots committee, operating under the
Golden Belt Community Foundation, received a $3,000 gift for this project
from the estate of Reta Brack. Andrea Bauer, Reta’s granddaughter and BAM
committee member, said the project is a nice tribute as the year anniversary of Brack's passing is approaching.
"When Reta Brack passed away last summer, part of her estate went to the Golden Belt Communication Foundation," said Bauer. "We were able to earmark part of it for this project. We have $3,000 of seed money to get us started. She loved sunflowers, the Chamber and Chamber coffees. We felt like this was great way to honor her."

BAM is hoping to secure an additional $7,000 to $10,000 to make an even bigger
impact on this corner in downtown Great Bend. Brady Scott, an artist from
Hutchinson, was chosen to paint the mural.
"Scott has been on our radar," said Bauer. "He's done some cool projects at the State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson and all over the region. He's done some really good sunflowers too, so we thought this was a great chance to bring it all together."
Bauer said BAM is hopeful to bring Scott to Great Bend in either July or
August.
"The size of the project determines his schedule," said Bauer. "He wants to go bigger. Bigger is better in his idea."
Donations can be sent through Golden Belt's online donation platform at goldenbeltcf.org. Include "BAM Chamber" in the memo.
