With no one filing for the Ward 4 seat on the Great Bend City Council,
Natalie Towns announced a write-in campaign toward the end of October. The
unofficial results from Tuesday’s General Election showed Towns received eight
write-in votes which turned out to be enough to claim the office.
"I'm looking forward to it," said Towns. "I'm looking forward to learning more about how the city runs. I want to represent this ward as best as I can do it."
Towns is retired but spent 14 years as the office manager at Doonan Specialized
Trailer prior to retiring. In the past, Towns has served as the director of the
local American Red Cross and program assistant for Central Kansas CASA.
Towns
wants to keep improving the town she has called home for nearly 44 years.
"I think it's great the way they're improving the look of the city, but there are a lot of areas that still need to be improved," said Towns. "I think the fourth ward is one of the areas that gets overlooked a lot."
Ward 4 is currently represented by Junior Welsch and Brock McPherson. Towns
will take her seat on the eight-member city council in January.
