A pair of runner-up placings concluded the Barton Community College track and field teams' weekend competing in the KJCCC/Region VI Indoor Championships held at Pittsburg State University's Plaster Center.
The 5th ranked women's team compiled 143 points with seven individual championships led by the trio of golds by Nia Robinson to earn the Female High Point Athlete of the Meet and Kayan Green's runner-up 600m performance ranking 6th best in program history.
The 6th ranked Cougar men moved up a spot after day one's result to finish in a tie for second place with 97 points, earning three first place finishes highlighted by Giovanni Gutierrez' shot put title in taking over the nation's top spot on his program 5th best ever heave.
Barton women's squad added five new national qualifying performances, bringing their total to 24 between thirteen individuals and the top ranked 4x400 relay team.
Also adding five additional national qualifying performances, the Cougar men upped their total to 20 between 12 individuals and its 3rd ranked 4x400 relay team.
Combined, the squads put forth 20 personal or season bests, 11 from the men's team and 9 from the women.
Barton returns to the Plaster Center March 4-5 for the NJCAA Indoor Championships.
