Stephen F. Effertz, age 71 years, of Great Bend, passed away at his home in Great Bend early on Saturday morning, July 2, 2022. Stephen was born on July 25, 1950 at Chippewa Falls, Wisc. to Henry L. and Sharon J. (Grisius) Effertz. He was united in marriage to Cindy J. Neal on Dec. 23, 1971 at Lone Grove, Okla. Stephen spent four years in the service of his country in the U.S. Army, and then worked in the oilfield for Dia-Log of Great Bend for 15 years. For 25 years from 1987 to 2012, he owned and operated the Baseball Card Shop in Great Bend. Stephen had a passion for card collecting, playing golf, coaching baseball, yard work and gardening, and in his younger years loved hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy J. Effertz of Great Bend; three sons: Steven Voth of Texas and Stephen Shane and Daniel Effertz, both of Great Bend; six grandchildren: Jayson Effertz, Justin Effertz, Blaze Jacobs, Trinity Reeves, Brayden Voth, and Tristan Voth; his mother, Sharon Servi of Heartland, Wisc., and his stepmother, Diane Effertz of Great Bend; three brothers: Anthony Effertz of Kansas City, Mo., Douglas Effertz of Great Bend, and John Servi of Yuma, Ariz.; one sister: Jackie Zube of Heartland, Wisc.; three step-siblings: Alana Blessing of Great Bend, Ryan Brack of Huntsville, Ala., and Landon Brack of Ellinwood; nieces and nephews. Stephen was preceded in death by his father, an infant sister Patty, an infant brother Danny, and a sister Janice Effertz.
According to his wishes, cremation has been chosen and no services are planned at this time. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital with Charter Funerals of Great Bend, Kansas in charge.
