The Great Bend City Council will receive a motion at their meeting on Monday, Dec. 16 to adopt solar regulations.

The Great Bend Planning Commission held a public hearing to consider proposed solar regulations within the three-mile zoning jurisdiction of Great Bend. In October, the city council sent the proposed regulations back to the Planning Commission to further look at the rule for setbacks and some language within the regulations.

The Planning Commission had another public hearing in late November and approved language for liability insurance of not less than $2 million. The Planning Commission also recommended setbacks matching the county setbacks with the solar panels and structures having to be located a minimum of 1,000-feet from the property line of a tract with a residence located on the tract.

The Planning Commission voted 4-2 to recommend approval to the City Council.

The city council meeting in Great Bend begins at 6:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
