SEATTLE (AP) — Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 33rd homer and Randy Arozarena connected twice as the Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 6-2. Raleigh led off the seventh inning with a home run against reliever Daniel Lynch IV, prompting chants of “MVP! MVP!” from the home crowd. Arozarena hit his 100th career homer with a solo shot in the fourth to give Seattle its first run. In the fifth, he broke open the game with a three-run drive, his 10th of the season. It was the first multihomer game for Arozarena since July 20, 2024. Winning pitcher George Kirby allowed one run and three hits in six innings.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Andrew Heaney carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and Spencer Horwitz powered Pittsburgh’s offense as the Pirates cruised past the St. Louis Cardinals 7-0 to match a season high with their fourth straight victory. Heaney allowed three hits and struck out seven on 95 pitches through 6 2/3 innings. After a 71-minute rain delay, he walked Brendan Donovan to start the game before retiring the next 16 batters. Victor Scott II spoiled the no-hit bid with a two-out single in the sixth. The last-place Pirates have outscored their past four opponents 37-4, including a lopsided three-game sweep of the Mets over the weekend. Horwitz hit a leadoff homer against Erick Fedde and finished with three RBIs.

UNDATED (AP) — EA Sports sent a cryptic tweet that hints at the revival of its college basketball video game franchise. Although not as popular as its college football franchise that was revived last year, EA was among the industry’s leaders in basketball gaming in the early 2000s. Its college hoops games were discontinued in 2009. The developer tweeted Monday, in reference to March Madness, “Bring the Madness. Let's run it back.” EA Sports ended its college hoops games due to multiple variables, not limited to player likeness concerns. A public relations representative for EA Sports wasn’t able to provide further details on a college basketball revival.

UNDATED (AP) — The upcoming year for college sports has at least a modest sense of stability: The $2.8 billion House settlement has been approved, clearing the way for schools to share millions in revenue with their athletes, and major conferences are in year two of realignment after welcoming new programs across the country. There is still a sense of urgency. The settlement has brought a whole new set of questions about compensating athletes and managing rosters. And realignment has not vanished by any means.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins are sending All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. Ramsey announced the trade Monday in a social media post. A person familiar with the trade confirmed that the Dolphins will get Fitzpatrick, who returns to the team that drafted him 11th overall in 2018. The terms have been agreed upon and are pending physicals. Smith will get a one-year contract extension for $12 million, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus.

NEW YORK (AP) — A person with knowledge of the details says the New York Knicks will interview two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike Brown for a second time as they seek Tom Thibodeau’s replacement. Brown’s return this week will make him the first of the known candidates to get a second interview for the position that has been vacant for nearly a month. Other candidates could also be asked to return, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because details of the coaching search were to remain private. The Knicks have also talked with Taylor Jenkins, James Borrego and Micah Nori.

LONDON (AP) — Carlos Alcaraz needed to go through five sets against Fabio Fognini at Wimbledon before winning their first-round match to start his bid for a third consecutive title at the All England Club. Alcaraz eventually asserted himself in the last set to pick up the 7-5, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 victory at Centre Court on Monday. The No. 2-seeded Alcaraz had a much tougher time than anyone likely expected before he managed to extend his current winning streak to a career-best 19 matches. Fognini is 38. He has said he’ll retire after this season and he entered the day with an 0-6 record on tour in 2025.

LONDON (AP) — Fifth-seeded Taylor Fritz’s match against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in Wimbledon’s first round has been suspended after four sets in case they wouldn’t be able to finish before the tournament’s 11 p.m. curfew. They’ll resume on Tuesday. During the opening game, Mpetshi Perricard hit a tournament-record 153 mph serve. The 6-foot-8 Mpetshi Perricard bettered the previous Wimbledon mark of 148 mph, by Taylor Dent in 2010. Fritz, though, not only managed to put his return in play, but also eventually won the point. Mpetshi Perricard took the initial two sets before Fritz grabbed the next two.
