KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kyle Isbel’s bunt single lifted the Kansas City Royals past the Houston Astros 10-8 on Saturday night. Isbel’s seventh-inning RBI bunt broke a 6-all tie for the Royals fourth straight win and a second consecutive series win for Kansas City. Logan Porter connected for his first career home run and James McArthur earned his first major league victory. Taylor Clarke earned his second save. Jose Altuve’s three-run homer tied the game in the top half of the inning, as the Astros overcame an early 4-0 deficit. Houston lost their first series since late June, having won 10-of-12 series with two splits.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Devin Neal and Daniel Hishaw Jr. combined for 137 rushing yards and four touchdowns, Jalon Daniels threw for 298 yards, and Kansas pulled away from Nevada in the fourth quarter for a 31-24 victory. The game was tied at 24-all when Daniels went 4-for-4 for 55 yards, leading to Neal’s third touchdown on a 3-yard run and a 31-24 lead with 6:20 left to play. Nevada was not able to cross midfield on its final two possessions. The Jayhawks (3-0) were a 28-point favorite at Nevada sports books. The Wolf Pack (0-3) was looking to end the nation’s longest losing streak. The now 13-game skid is also the longest in program history.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Harrison Mevis kicked a 61-yard field goal with no time remaining, sending Missouri to a come-from-behind 30-27 victory over No. 15 Kansas State in a nonconference showdown of former Big 12 rivals. The SEC-record-long kick Saturday came after a delay-of-game penalty had pushed the Tigers back five yards. Brady Cook finished with 356 yards passing and two touchdowns for the Tigers, despite hobbling around on sprained knee. Luther Burden III had both of the scoring grabs, finishing with seven catches for 114 yards. Will Howard threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns with an interception for the Wildcats, who had plenty of chances to put the game away. They were done in by late penalties and their inability to convert on third down.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Xavier Worthy caught a 44-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter and Jerrin Thompson added an interception return for another score minutes later as No. 4 Texas pulled away late from Wyoming for a 31-10 victory. The win pushed the Longhorns to 3-0 for the firs time since 2012. Jonathon Brooks added 164 yards rushing for Texas. Harrison Waylee led Wyoming with 110 yards rushing and a 62-yard touchdown. The game was tied 10-10 to start the fourth quarter before Worthy broke the game open with a short catch and scamper along the sideline to the end zone.
HOUSTON (AP) — TCU quarterback Chandler Morris threw for 314 yards and two touchdowns as the Horned Frogs spoiled Houston’s Big 12 Conference debut with a 36-13 victory. TCU (2-1, 1-0) won its second straight game after a season-opening loss to Colorado. TCU’s offense had a fast-paced opening drive that ended with a 33-yard touchdown pass from Morris to Warren Thompson, just 1:31 into the game. Morris finished 24 of 37, threw one interception and added 53 rushing yards on 12 carries. Houston (1-2, 0-1) moved up from the American Athletic Conference this season but suffered a rude welcoming to the Big 12.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Kedon Slovis threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns, including one to Chase Roberts who made a one-handed catch with eight minutes left, to give BYU a 38-31 win against Arkansas. Slovis finished 13 of 25 for 167 yards and LJ Martin added 77 yards rushing with two scores. Arkansas drove inside the BYU 20 in the final 20 seconds, but the drive stalled with four penalties including one on the final play to end the game.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Brett Gabbert threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Joe Wilkins Jr. in overtime and the Miami-Ohio RedHawks defeated its oldest rival, the Cincinnati Bearcats, 31-24 on Saturday night to break a 16-game losing streak in the series. Cincinnati’s Emory Jones’ pass on fourth down from the 2 was intercepted by Yahsyn McKee to end it. Carter Brown’s 35-yard field goal attempt was blocked by McKee as time expired to force overtime.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — CJ Donaldson rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown before getting hurt as West Virginia beat Pittsburgh 17-6 in the ‘Backyard Brawl.’ The Mountaineers scored 10 points off of two Pittsburgh interceptions. Donaldson was hurt in the fourth quarter and West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene was injured in the first quarter. Neither returned to the game. Nicco Marchiol came on for Greene to throw a short touchdown pass for the Mountaineers. Pittsburgh settled for two short first-half field goals after reaching the West Virginia 20. The Panthers were held to their fewest points in the series since a 34-0 loss in 1996.
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — La’Damian Webb ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns, and South Alabama stunned Oklahoma State 33-7 for its second-ever win over a Power Five opponent. Caullin Lacy added five catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns for South Alabama. The Sun Belt Conference program entered the night with a 1-14 all-time record against Power Five opponents. Oklahoma State hadn’t lost a non-conference game since falling at home against Central Michigan in 2016. It was just the Cowboys' third non-conference home loss since Mike Gundy became head coach in 2005.
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio defensive lineman Rodney Mathews picked off a deflected pass late in the fourth quarter to preserve a 10-7 win by the Bobcats over Iowa State on Saturday afternoon. Iowa State began at its own 12-yard-line after a booming Ohio punt with 2:21 left. But on the first play of the drive, quarterback Rocco Becht’s pass was broken up by Ohio cornerback Roman Parodie, and the ball settled into the arms of Mathews to seal a signature win for the Bobcats.
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Shedeur Sanders threw a TD pass to Michael Harrison in the second overtime after leading a 98-yard drive to tie the game with 36 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and No. 18 Colorado rallied to beat Colorado State 43-35 early Sunday in front of a full house packed with celebrities. Sanders connected with Harrison for an 18-yard score and then found an open Xavier Weaver on the 2-point conversion. The Colorado defense took it from there, with Trevor Woods intercepting Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi’s pass on fourth-and-23 to end the game at nearly 2:30 a.m. ET. The Rams were a 23 1/2-point underdog.
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Carson Beck passed for 269 yards, Daijun Edwards, Dillon Bell and Cash Jones ran for second-half touchdowns, and No. 1 Georgia rallied from 11 points down to beat South Carolina 24-14. The two-time reigning national champion Bulldogs won their 20th consecutive game in uncharacteristic fashion. They trotted off the field trailing 14-3 — their largest halftime deficit in nearly three years. But Georgia played like a champ after the teams returned to the field, improving to 3-0 on the season. Spencer Rattler and the Gamecocks couldn't get anything going over the final two quarters and slipped to 1-2.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Trevor Etienne ran for a career-high 172 yards and a touchdown, Montrell Johnson scored twice and Florida upset No. 11 Tennessee 29-16 on Saturday night to extend the Volunteers’ losing streak in Gainesville to 10. The victory was the first in a rivalry for Florida’s Billy Napier, who last year became the first coach in school history to lose to Tennessee, LSU, Georgia and Florida State in the same season. Getting the first one under his belt should help quell outside noise about Napier’s long-term viability with the Gators. For the Volunteers, the 550-mile trip from Knoxville ended much like all the others over the last two decades: in heartache. Tennessee last won at the Swamp in 2003.
BOSTON (AP) — DJ Lundy intercepted a pass to set up his own 1-yard touchdown run as No. 3 Florida State scored four unanswered touchdowns to build a 21-point lead and survive a late Boston College charge to win 31-29. Boston College set a school record for penalties, missed an extra point, went for 2 points after another touchdown and failed, and opted not to kick a field goal from the Seminoles 5 when trailing by 15 points early in the fourth quarter. But the Eagles still trailed by only 2 points with the ball in the final three minutes before Kalen DeLoach sacked Thomas Castellanos on third down to stall BC’s last possession. With the unexpectedly close victory over a team that had struggled against non-Power Five opponents, Florida State could fall in The Associated Press Top 25.
