The Kansas Department of Transportation opened bids in the mid-June for the no passing zones signing project in the southwest quadrant of Barton County. There were four bids with the lowest one being submitted by Sign-Up LTD for $69,542.
Barton County Engineer Barry McManaman said this is the second of three phases of the project.
"The design part of it came in slightly over $34,000," said McManaman. "This construction part came in at $69,542. The next thing we'll talk about is the inspection part of the agreement."
The Barton County Commission approved the bid from Sign-Up with a 4-0 vote at Tuesday’s meeting.
The total project was estimated to cost $171,000, but McManaman said so far the expense is under budget at $160,931.79.
"That's good news because that means the project will be 100 percent paid for by KDOT," said McManaman. "Unless we have some unforeseen non-participating cost, I don't see us exceeding that limit."
The contractor will install no passing pennants at the beginning of each no passing zone on county blacktop roads in the southwest portion of the county.
