Earlier this month, Barton County officials reminded the public of how decorations should be handled on graves at any of the county cemeteries. Decorations were allowed to be placed on graves seven days prior to Memorial Day.

Barton County Commission Chair Tricia Schlessiger on Tuesday reminded citizens it is now time remember the second half the resolution, that all decorations must be removed seven days after the holiday.

"Barton County will not be responsible for the loss or damage to appropriate ornamental items left on the lot, grave or other parts of the Memorial Parks and Cemeteries during the listed holiday periods," said Schlessiger.

All grave decorations not in a vase may be displayed only seven days before and after the holiday. As Barton County will get back into mowing and regular cemetery maintenance, employees will not attempt to find items after being removed.

Barton County maintains the Golden Belt Cemetery and the Hillcrest cemeteries, north of Great Bend.
