From the Barton County Conservation District...

This is one of the busiest months of the year!  We all have holidays, graduations, planting, and end of school things happening, as well as the start of summer sports, and upcoming vacations and more.

So, down to business!  Just a few things to make note of this month.

  1. We are taking applications now for the Water Resources and Non Point Source state cost share programs.  We will take applications for the first group of funding for FY 2024 up until May 31.  This ranking pool is usually our biggest, and when the most contract awards are made.
  2. We are hiring a Conservation Technician.  This is a great first step to a satisfying career for those who want to transition to the NRCS.  Requirements are a high school diploma or equivalent GED, a farm or conservation background, and good communication skills.  It’s a full time position with a nice benefit package and a real future!  In addition, this is a day time, weekday position and designated federal holidays paid and off, so great work-life balance.  We are accepting applications until May 24, here at the Conservation District office.  Call if you have questions!
  3. The Victory Garden of Barton County has raised bed gardens available now- ready to plant.  Contact the Conservation District or stop in at the Barton County Historical Society Museum and sign up now to be part of our community garden!
