The Community College women's track and field team continued its indoor season this past weekend in Lubbock, competing at the 9th Annual Corky Classic hosted by Texas Tech University inside the Sports Performance Center.
Facing a deep and competitive field of 22 teams, including eight Power 4 programs, a limited squad of Cougars used the weekend as a high-level benchmark, adding a pair of national qualifying marks while gaining valuable experience against top-flight competition.
Alexia Walker delivered one of Barton's standout performances in the long jump, placing 12th overall while securing a national qualifying mark with a leap of 5.71 meters (18-08.75). Celine Riddle followed closely, also meeting the national standard in finishing 16th at 5.59m (18-04.25), giving Barton a pair of qualifiers in the event.
In the hurdles, Asharria Ulett advanced through the rounds to place 11th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.54, after clocking an 8.51 in the opening round, continuing her consistent early-season form following last week's national qualifying performance. Camoy Binger added a 25th-place finish at 8.75, already having secured her national mark in the season opener.
Sprint action saw Thomphang Basele post a 7.71 in the 60m against a deep field, building off her national qualifying debut from the previous week. Kennidra Spigner and Takeila Williams each recorded personal or season bests across the sprints, with Spigner clocking a season-best 25.43 in the 200m and Williams posting a personal best 25.58.
Riddle doubled back in the triple jump, placing 17th with a mark of 11.90m (39-00.50), just shy of her previous national qualifying distance. In the high jump, freshman Jahmeka Brown tied for 11th while matching her personal best and national qualifying height of 1.66m (5-05.25), continuing a strong start to her collegiate career.
Barton returns to action Saturday, January 24, traveling to Pittsburg, Kansas, to compete in the NAIA/JUCO Challenge hosted at Pittsburg State University's Plaster Center.
