
Officers with the Great Bend Police Department have been busy with a pair of drug arrests in the last week. On Friday, Dec. 16, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers from the Great Bend Police Department responded to a residence located at 2535 21st Street, in Great Bend, in reference to the execution of a search warrant for illegal narcotics.
Upon arrival, officers located and detained two individuals inside the residence. During a thorough search of the residence, officers located methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm on the property. Layton Brown, 23, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no drug tax stamp. Brown was transported to the Barton County Jail and booked in lieu of a $10,000 cash surety bond.
On Dec. 19, just before midnight, a Great Bend police officer made a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Morton Street with a bicyclist. During the traffic stop, the officer made contact with a white female later identified as Joyce Garcia. The officer was advised Garcia had a warrant out of Rooks County. Garcia was placed under arrest for her warrant. During this arrest, the officer located a white substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Garcia was transported and booked into the Barton County Jail for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no drug tax stamp in lieu of a $10,000 bond. Garcia was also booked and held in lieu of a second bond for her warrant.
