Now that the dogs had their turn, the pool season is officially closed
at the Great Bend Wetlands Waterpark.
Aug. 14 was the last day the pool was open for the public to
swim, but last Saturday was “Bark in the Park” where dogs were allowed to swim
around.
After starting, Memorial Day weekend, Great Bend Recreation Commission Aquatics
Director Megan Hammeke said numbers were good this year at the pool.
"We were busy," said Hammeke. "We didn't have many rain or cold days. We still had the numbers. We had the average of 200 to 300 people a day."
The waterpark staff included 44 lifeguards and 10 concession stand workers this
summer. All those employees were between the ages of 15 and 22.
According to Hammeke, more than 300 children participated in swim lessons at the waterpark this year.
