The Great Bend High School softball team was cruising along with six straight wins. Then Hays entered the equation. The Lady Indians defeated the Panthers 8-1 in a single game Tuesday at the Great Bend Sports Complex. Hays picked up two more wins Thursday on their own turf, defeating Great Bend 11-1 and 5-0.

The  Lady Panthers were unable to avoid a run-rule in game one as Hays scored one in the first and nine times in the second inning. The Lady Indians pushed the lead to 11-0 after three innings. Denver Ringo and Paige Thexton both doubled in the fifth inning to provide the lone Lady Panther run. Singles from Katherine Mazouch and DeShawnna Bryant were the only other two Great Bend hits in the loss.

Thexton and Ringo also split four innings in the circle. Thexton allowed nine earned runs on nine hits in her two innings of work, and Ringo allowed a run on no hits while striking out two in her two innings of work.

Game two was much better until the Lady Indians scratched across four runs in the fifth inning to set up the 5-0 win. All five runs against Alyssa McCauley were unearned. The freshman allowed seven hits and walked two.

Bryant provided three of the seven Lady Panther hits and also reached on a walk. Halle Post doubled, and Thexton, McCauley, and Analiz Rivas each singled.

The Lady Panthers fall to 6-6 heading into next Tuesday's single game against Garden City at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
