Last year, when the Great Bend Public Library received a $10,000 grant from the American Library Association to improve accessibility toward the building, initial thoughts were to use the funds for an ADA restroom. After holding community meetings to gather input from the public, Library Director Maribeth Shafer said the library will now utilize the grant on improving the main entrance.
Receiving additional grants, the library will be able have a chair lift installed by the steps on the north side.
"Both of our ramps are little too long and too steep because they were built in 1972," said Shafer. "This will make them ADA compliant and accessible for anyone that has a walker, stroller or a wheelchair. We're very excited about that."
Shafer added the library is set to receive a technology grant to assist programming for all ages. The tech grant will enhance online safety and workforce training.
