Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark introduced the newest hire to the
Police Department at Monday’s Great Bend City Council meeting. Officer Logan
Wooters began working with the department in November. Earlier this month,
Haulmark mentioned his staff is completely full and they’re looking to keep it
that way.
"The city council and community voted to help us out with the retirement, that's a big part of that," said Haulmark. "Also, we're keeping people happy and satisfied while they're here. We're sending people to different trainings that invest in them and let them know we care about their development. That's a tool for retention."
Haulmark credited the good team morale to the recently passed .20% sales tax
increase that will bolster first responders’ retirement plans and a new police
station that will be constructed by next August.
"I like to think the environment is at a good place," said Haulmark. "They guys and gals like coming to work."
Wooters worked at the prison in Larned prior to accepting the job in Great
Bend. The 24-year-old is a Navy veteran. Wooters will attend the Kansas Law
Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) training near Hutchinson in January.
