LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas junior Will King has been selected as the Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, which was announced Thursday as part of the Big 12 Men's Golf Yearly Awards.
"What a very prestigious and deserving honor for Will," Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. "What he has done in the classroom and on the golf course is very, very impressive!"
An Olathe, Kansas native and graduate of Rockhurst High School, King becomes the first Kansas golfer to win Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors from the Big 12. He holds a 4.0 grade point average while majoring in molecular, cellular and developmental biology, while having the highest percentage of counting rounds for a Jayhawk squad that qualified for NCAA Regionals for a program-record ninth consecutive season.
King captured the individual medalist honors at the Hawkeye Invitational, finishing two shots ahead of the field at 9-under (207) to earn the second individual title of his collegiate career. King's performance in that tournament helped lift the Jayhawks to their first team title since 2022. For the year, King totaled a career-best 71.55 stroke average on 29 rounds for the season.
