Years ago, Hoisington held a farmers market outside of an antique store
where vendors and individuals would meet to sell food, crafts and miscellaneous
goods. After the antique store shut down, one of the organizers of the market
asked Melissa Davis, co-owner of the Cardinal Thrift Store, if Davis would
continue the market. Davis now hosts the peddlers/farmers market every third
Saturday during the summer on the sidewalk in front of the thrift store in
Hoisington.
"There's really unlimited space in front of the businesses," said Davis. "I think I'm the only one here on a Saturday on this block. We'll have plenty of room for anyone that wants to come."
Davis said you might find candy, jewelry, lemonade stands, baked goods,
pickles, clothing and collectible items. The next market is scheduled for Saturday, June 17 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.
"Vendors can just show up if they want to come," said Davis. "If they want to, they can give me a call. Since it's open for everybody, they don't necessarily have to tell me in advance."
The Cardinal Thrift Store is located at 158 South Main Street in Hoisington.
