Staff from the Great Bend Recreation Commission was busy Tuesday at a conference in Manhattan. The goal: ideas to better serve the community. Rec Marketing Director Megan Hammeke said residents can complete a survey through Feb. 1 to let Rec staff know which programs they would like to see.

"We're at conference right now, we get a ton of ideas, but we know that fishing Facebook and Pinterest-world, they see things that maybe we haven't seen," she said. "We just wanted to get their input on what they're loving and what they'd like to see and just get us some ideas as we're brainstorming for a new year."

Last year, The Rec added the ninja course and rock wall at the Activity Center on 18th Street and playground equipment at Veterans Memorial Park and the Sports Complex.

"Once we figure out some of the ideas, if there are some of those big-ticket items or some big things they'd like to see, those are obviously things we'd want to bring to our board and show them this is the way the public is leaning and things we'd like to see happen in the future," Hammeke said.

The new restroom at the My Background Playground on 18th Street is nearing completion.
