Clara Barton Medical Center is pleased to announce that Shayla Cook, RN, BSN has been promoted to the position of Clinic Practice Administrator. Cook has been an employee at Clara Barton since 2014, serving as Nurse Manager for the last 5 years.

“I think Clara Barton has always been forward-thinking when it comes to health care in rural Kansas, and I am excited to continue to be a part of it in my new role,” said Cook.

After graduating from Hoisington High School, Cook attended Fort Hays State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Nursing. She married her husband, Kody, in September 2010 and they moved back to Hoisington, where they now have 3 children – Millie (9), Marcie (8), and Albie (7).

Cook has gained experience in a variety of roles throughout the organization since first joining the Clara Barton family in 2014. Initially, she was hired as an RN for the hospital floor. When the opportunity arose, Cook transferred roles and began working as a provider nurse in the clinic. After a few years in the clinic, she was promoted and has been serving as Nurse Manager.

In March of 2022, Cook was selected to succeed long-time Clinic Practice Administrator, Debra Hawkins, following her retirement. After working alongside Hawkins for over a year training for the position, Cook has officially assumed all duties as Clinic Practice Administrator.

“Deb is a great mentor and I have been absolutely blessed to be able to learn from her,” said Cook. “I look forward to continuing to work with patients and the community, alongside the amazing staff at Clara Barton – providing the best health care possible for our community.”

In addition to her recent promotion at Clara Barton, Cook is also a Kansas Hospital Association Leadership Institute Graduate and was selected as a recipient of the Great Bend Tribune’s 20 under 40 Award.

“I am so excited to see this day come for Shayla,” said Jim Blackwell President/CEO of Clara Barton Medical Center. “It is bittersweet because I have to say goodbye to our friend Deb Hawkins whom I hired so many years ago as the practice administrator. We both have worked to prepare Shayla for this day, and I think I can speak for both of us to say that we couldn’t be more proud! I have very high hopes for her in the years to come, and will be excited to see what kind of success comes her way!”
