From the League of Women Voters of Barton County...

Amid the effects of the pandemic and the rise of electronic platforms for meetings, a new board of directors for the local League of Women Voters has formed. The state League co-presidents came from Topeka and Wichita last summer to assist with this endeavor. The new board would be delighted to introduce themselves to you at the “Meet the Board” program on Thursday, March 31 at 6:30 p.m. at the lower-level meeting room at the Great Bend Public Library.

Acknowledgement of previous board members that have that have served for decades is in order as is a review of the 2019-2020 Centennial activities which featured historical presentations, book club reviews, the Kansas Traveling Exhibit and the Voter Panel U-tube link. Some of you may know that the first League in the nation was formed in Wichita after the 19th Amendment passed in 1920.

Now the League is focused on educating ourselves on redistricting maps, the upcoming Constitutional Amendment vote in August, voting rights and ensuring fair access to the ballot box for all.

Our 2022 Advocacy Priorities brochure will be available to all attendees.

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization that neither supports nor opposes candidates or political parties at any level of government, but works on issues of interest to the public, especially voting.

We welcome you to “Meet the Board” on March 31.
