Lucinia L. “Lucy” Krieger, 79, died Aug. 31, 2023, at Bramlage House, Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan. She was born Jan. 24, 1944, in Vancouver, Wash., the daughter of Howard and Ruth (Brady) Burtnett. She attended elementary school in Chase, and then the family moved to Hays. She attended junior high and high school in Hays where she was active in marching band, orchestra, and jazz band. It was also in high school where she started sewing and continued through adulthood enjoying quilting, sewing, and crafts.
On Sept. 2, 1961, she married Deryl Marsell, in Hays. To this marriage, three children were born Rhonda, Darren, and Douglas. They later divorced. She then married Carl W. Krieger on Nov. 9, 1970, in Hoisington, and they were blessed with a son, Daniel. Carl preceded her in death on June 25, 2006.
Lucy worked as a CNA in two different nursing homes in Hoisington and eventually transferred into housekeeping at the Great Bend Manor. She also worked at Wendy’s in Great Bend and later worked for a short time at Walmart in Manhattan.
Survivors include: four children, Rhonda Carryer and husband Robert of Ogden, Darren Marsell and wife Kris of Lorraine, Douglas Marsell and wife Karen of Russell, and Daniel Krieger of Ottumwa, Iowa; sister Judy Kile and husband Don of Morris, Illinois; 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Burtnett, mother, Ruth Mason, and stepfather, Shorty Mason, stepfather, Willard Yarger and stepmother, Clara Yarger, and husband Carl Krieger.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday with family to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Warren Stecklein. Inurnment will be in Hoisington Cemetery at a later date.
