From the city of Great Bend
In preparation for paving activities at the drag strip, the city of Great Bend is restricting public access to the Expo complex for approximately one month. Entrances at G Ave., SW 50 Ave. and SW 60 Ave. will be blocked and gated with only authorized personnel allowed into the complex.
These measures are necessary to limit traffic in the area and prevent disturbances during the paving process. Updates from the city of Great Bend will be provided when the entrances are re-opened.
The Sunflower Rod and Custom Association (SRCA) Drag Strip has been a herald national venue for drag racing, hosting the first National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Nationals in 1955 before being recognized as a Kansas Historical Site in 1994.
