Taking place in the middle of April, the weather can be unpredictable for Barton Community College Foundation’s sporting clay shoot fundraiser. Foundation Executive Director Lindsey Bogner said the April 16 event at Camp Aldrich was a chilly day. The Foundation had giveaways that included Barton stocking caps, and those caps were quickly used by the participants.
Despite
the cold weather, Bogner reported an improved year for the 13th
annual clay shoot.
"We made a lot of changes with sponsorships, shooter registrations and our raffle was open to the public," said Bogner. "There were a lot of different things but a very good success."
This year, the clay shoot had 238 registrations compared to 208 last year.
Bogner said the fundraiser collected approximately $23,000 this year, a bump
from last year’s $15,000.
The money raised is used for faculty mini-grants, which Barton faculty members
can use to enhance student learning in their classrooms. The Foundation has
awarded more than $132,000 in mini-grants to date.
