This year, the State of Kansas will be turning 164 years old. Kansas Day is celebrated each year on Jan. 29 to commemorate the anniversary of the state entering the Union.

To help in the celebration, Great Bend Community Coordinator Christina Hayes said she wants to hear from children in Barton County on why they love Kansas.

"I would love to have selfies, pictures or whatever quotes they want so I can use them for a big Kansas Day celebration," said Hayes. "They will be on the billboard at the Events Center and our social media page. I just want to show the state that Great Bend does love Kansas."

Hayes is going to start the local promotion on Kansas Day and continue the messages for at least a month. The quote and picture will be used in posts on the city’s billboard and social media.

The pictures and quotes need to be submitted by Wednesday, Jan. 15. Send the picture and no more than two sentences on "What you love about Kansas" along with your name and town to [email protected].
