2nd ranked Cougars roll past Truman 96-53, conference slate opens Wednesday

Racing out to a 9-0 start Saturday the 2nd ranked Barton Community College men's basketball team never looked back in rolling to a 96-53 victory over Harry S. Truman College out of Chicago to wrap up the weekend's Best Western/Booster Club Classic.

Similar to the women's team in the earlier contest, Barton utilized all thirteen players for at least eleven minutes of court time to double up the Falcons by halftime before building a forty-four point second half margin cruising to the victory.

Barton improves to 5-0 on the year while Truman searches for its first win of the year against three defeats.

The focus now turns to the rugged KJCCC slate beginning Wednesday in hosting 15th ranked Hutchinson Community College in a 7:30 p.m. tip. The Blue Dragons make the return trip to the Barton Gym after going 1-1 in the Classic following a 75-69 loss to Northern Oklahoma College-Enid in slipping to 4-2 on the year. The Jets, who pushed Barton in Friday's loss, also completes the Classic splitting contests in moving their record to 5-2.

Nearly half of the Cougars posted double-figure performances led by the combined 5-of-9 three-point shooting off the bench from Fontaine Williams and Lyna Brooks, Jr. for 11 points each.

Joining the pair in double figures with 10 points each were Keandre KindellBrent MossAris Rodriguez, and Modibo Sanogo.

In addition to the 47.8% shooting from the field including 13-of-32 (40.6%) from long distance, Barton also connected on a season best 90.5% from the stripe sinking 19-of-21.

Three Falcons reached double figures, Michael Dempsey leading the squad with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Jory Boley added 11 points with Nickolas Owens contributing 10 points off the bench.
