Brent Cox is a 25-year-old from Hutchinson. After graduating from Hutchinson Community College and Southwestern University in El Paso, Texas, Cox moved back to Kansas and settled into a job in Great Bend.

Cox said Great Bend does more for its citizens than any other city he has been to. He is now running for a seat on the Great Bend City Council to represent Ward 1.

Cox said he would love to see the .15% quality of life sales tax continue to boost community-based events.

"That tax can definitely help keep those events coming," said Cox. "Our population is dropping in this city, and I feel like showing that our community is making the individuals and the people a priority will definitely help bring that population back up."

Cox participated in the candidate forum last week in Great Bend hosted by the League of Women Voters – Barton County. Incumbent Alan Moeder is also running for the Ward 1 position but was absent from the forum.
