A new mural has emerged on the Golden Belt Community Foundation building in downtown Great Bend. With $30 million in assets and more than 180 funds, the Community Foundation helps support non-profit organizations and make it easy for charitable giving for donors.
Executive Director Jason Murray said the mural represents that ability to leave a legacy.
"There's a silhouette of a younger brother and sister, or it could be a young version of a husband and wife," said Murray. "They are looking toward the future. We have a our 'crypted' stars on there. It says leave a legacy on it."

Murray said the south side of the building at 1307 Williams was starting to deteriorate. With other artistic work created recently in town, the Community Foundation had a chance to repair their wall and support the move for a vibrant community.
Local artist Melanie Ryan was given a basic concept for the mural and inserted her artistic vision into the project.
"She had some ideas," said Murray. "It started as more of a color aspect. For us, it didn't create that complete vision. People would have to have a lot more imagination of what we were doing. She added more of the silhouettes and background. We added the comment of 'leave a legacy.'"
Ryan was performing touchup work Monday and expects to have the mural finished this week.
