The launch of another year of the Sunflower Summer program took place this past weekend. Created for Kansas students and their families, the Sunflower Summer program offers complimentary admission to more than 230 attractions.

Kansas Wetlands Education Center Director Curtis Wolf said KWEC is one of those attractions.

"Obviously, we're free already, but you can come in and it's a great thing to remind you that we're out there still," said Wolf.

Participating attractions include museums, discovery centers, historic sites, arboretums and zoos. The program covers admission costs for pre-K through 12th-grade students and one adult guardian per attraction. The program will continue until Aug. 3.

"At the beginning in the first year, it was like how do we get into this?" said Wolf. "We missed out. I did some calling and said we would really like to be a part of this and they said sure. The next year we were on their list."

Along with the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, the Shafer Art Gallery at Barton Community College, Barton County Historical Society and Museum, Ellinwood Tunnels, Pawnee Rock State Historic Site and Santa Fe Trail Center Museum are included in the app.
