Man flees from Great Bend police, later stopped for DUI

On Sunday, Feb. 5 at approximately 7:09 p.m., an officer from the Great Bend Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of Forest Avenue and Morphy Street in reference to a traffic infraction.

The Officer exited his vehicle and was going to make contact with the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Layton Luke, age 29, when the vehicle drove away from the traffic stop. Luke fled from the traffic stop traveling down multiple streets in Great Bend.

Barton County Sheriff's Office deputies joined the pursuit and the vehicle was eventually stopped in the 10 block of South US 281 Highway. Luke was taken into custody, and there were two firearms located in his vehicle at the time it was stopped.

Luke was arrested and transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked in lieu of bond on charges of felony flee and elude, possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving under the influence and other charges related to the pursuit.
